Dehydration is a condition where the essential fluid and
electrolytes are lost and not replaced in sufficient quantity. This happens
with diarrhea, vomiting, sweat loss, or fever, or when people do not drink
enough.
Not every liquid rehydrates correctly. Water does not have the needed
electrolytes; sugary or salty drinks can make the problem worse. Cera products
replace fluid losses and can be taken on a regular basis, before the problem
becomes serious. Dehydration symptoms include:
• Sunken eyes, or--in infants--sunken fontanel
("soft spot" at the top of the head)
• Excessive thirst
• Decreased urine or no urine
• High Temperature (over 103†)
• Blood in the stool, severe abdominal cramps
• Severe diarrhea and vomiting
Any of these symptoms can indicate a possibly dangerous condition--see your
doctor or go to the nearest hospital or clinic right away! Also call a doctor
if diarrhea continues more than one day.
