New Clinical Study Results: CeraLyte 90 with L-histadine Shows
Significant Life-Saving Properties for Victims of Cholera

Abstract of Clinical Study: Antidiarrheal Effects of L-Histidine–
Supplemented Rice-Based Oral Rehydration Solution
in the Treatment of Male Adults with Severe Cholera
in Bangladesh: A Double-Blind, Randomized Trial

Published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases, April 2005

Summary:  In a double-blind trial of 126 adult male patients with cholera, L-histidine was
mixed with CeraLyte 90 ORS and administered to 62 patients; 64 patients received CeraLyte
without L-histidine.

The trial found that administration of CeraLyte 90 with L-histidine significantly reduced the
frequency of stool output by nearly 35%. Additionally, over a period of 48 hours, the duration
of illness was reduced, and patients needed less of the ORS as the recovery period progressed.
Finally, no adverse effects were observed in these patients.

Conclusion: CeraLyte 90 with L-histidine reduces the weight of stool and the frequency of
stool output in cholera. This combination could be a useful and safe adjunct treatment to combat
the deadly effects of cholera.
