Adventures for the Cure wins Race across America 2-man division

07.08.2009 - On June 30, the two man team of Adventures for the Cure arrived in Annapolis, Md, after completing 3,021 (4,861 km) in the transcontinental Race Across America (RAAM) in only 7 days, 1 hr and 38 min. This was awesome time for the CeraSport-sponsored team, especially considering that 27-yr old Adam Driscoll, one of the two winning team members, is a type-1 diabetic and had to check his blood sugar levels between shift changes with teammate Patrick Blair.

"Competing in the 2-man division was extremely hard and meant limited sleep time (average 3 hrs/per day). Pat kept our team together as I started to fall asleep on the bike and was swerving all over the place!" Adventures for the Cure had an average of 17.82 mph, faster than times for half of the twelve 4-man teams.

The two guys consumed over 16,000 calories a day and drank over 24 half liters of CeraSport hydration drinks to avert cramping and keep hydration levels up. For Driscoll, CeraSport also helps avert insulin spiking that happens with typical sports drinks.

Ultra marathon cycling is nothing new for this pair who competed in the 2008 RAAM as part of a 4-man team on single-speed, fixed-gear bicycles, finishing in fourth place despite that! In 2006, the pair completed a 6,500 mile journey across the United States that was chronicled in the award-winning documentary film, Adventures for the Cure: The Doc.

CeraSport has been sponsoring Adventures for the Cure (AFC) for two years, providing product and funds to support the charity activities of AFC, including their efforts to raise awareness of how a healthy and active lifestyle can help individuals with diabetes.
