A new and different triathlon season for World 70.3 Champion, Mirinda Carfrae, is off and running. This season will be different than all the others due to her scheduled participation in the 2009 Ford Ironman Triathlon World Championships in October.

"I'm going the full-distance this year and really excited about it" said Carfrae. "I've been thinking about Kona ever since I won the 70.3 World Championships."

To accommodate her late season Kona ramp-up, Mirinda has an aggressive early-season schedule of high profile 70.3 races. She opened the season at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside by overcoming an impossible deficit after the first lap of the run to record a magic win at the finish line. Next, Mirinda raced at the Ironman 70.3 St. Croix where she recorded a 2nd place finish.

In St. Croix, Mirinda changed her usual tactics andĀ attacked on the bike and exited the bike-run transition with a clear lead. However, she slowed on the run and was passed and easily beaten by Catrina Morrison. "That was a bad-beat for me but a great lesson going into Kona," said Carfrae. "I realized that if I want to push hard like that on the bike I need more calorie intake. I will adjust my intake of calories, including Cera Product's CeraSport electrolyte sports drinks for my next races to find the optimal formula for Kona."

On the sponsor front Mirinda continues her relationships with ZOOT, Cannondale, Oakley, Cerasport and Profile. "In years like this you really appreciate the value of having long-term stable relationship with sponsor and products," commented Carfrae. "Moving up in distance is enough of a worry but at least I have full-confidence in my race tools. That in itself is a big load-off."
